Additionally, engaging in harmful activities like smoking and going to a tanning salon are lifestyle factors that can play a part in the surfacing of visible veins. The veins can appear blue, purple or yellow, and can sometimes cause puffiness or bags under the eyes and make you look tired or fatigued. When the skin becomes so thin that it is almost translucent, it is inevitable that veins will start to become visible. Aging is the most common cause of under eye veins due to the fact that the skin in this area is already very thin and sensitive, and only gets thinner and more sensitive as you age. Typically, these veins are not visible to the naked eye, however there are certain risk factors that may cause your periorbital veins to appear more prominent, such as family history, the natural aging process, skin tone, sun damage, smoking, or using tanning beds.
