![]() ![]() We also tried the sweet potato cheesecake. I guess the point of coming here is just to say that we have been to Atlanta and had chicken and waffles (which is what Atlanta is supposedly famous for)! Mission accomplished. The chicken wings and waffles were average. There was no surprise to me about my chicken and waffles - it tasted exactly as I expected. We got our food pretty quickly after ordering them. We also ordered some fried green tomatoes and fried okras. I ordered the midnight train, which comes in four chicken wings with waffles. We came here as a party of five and were seated immediately. There you have it! Chicken and waffles! What is the big deal about it? I gotta try it to find out! It is just chicken and waffles in my opinion. You take fried chicken, and put some waffles on the same plate. To this day, I still don't understand why people are crazy about chicken and waffles. Great! Oh, for take out, I got the sweet potato cheesecake.perfect, not too sweet, airy with tons of yummy pecans! All this for $27. The atmosphere was casual and comfortable with tons of Gladys Knight famous people pics, memorabilia, music and video all around. Server warned me the fried corn would be spicy and I'm glad she did cuz it had a kick but it made it that much better! Server was attentive and pleasant. Midnight train was 4 big juicy, lightly battered wings with a fluffy, slightly crispy 7 inch diameter waffle with a pad of butter on top. Refills were only $1.50 but you didn't need it. Uptown was sweet and refreshing and went perfect with the meal. So glad I did!! Wish I had others with me cuz I would have loved to try all sorts of dishes but I kept it with their signature Midnight Train, a side of fried corn niblets and their Uptown beverage. Birthday fail.įirst time in Atlanta and just for the day so I looked at various soul food places on Yelp and decided to check this place out. The food was ok but if I come back to Atlanta I won't be going back - there is a lot of other places I will be trying again next time. ![]() (We went to Mary macs, thumbs up diner, and the Atlanta breakfast club having the best service of them all). Not to mention this was the first of several establishments we had been to in Atlanta where the staff didn't help us with our multiple strollers and car seat. We said countless times we didn't need a high chair or booster seat for the 2 year old but we would need the sling for the car seat.in the end we didn't get either and just squeezed in the booth. The server gave a good effort but the seating arrangement was the most upsetting. Not to mention a worker comes out to say there is no rice, catfish, collard green spring rolls, and sweet potato cheesecake.so the wait is long, the cleanup is long, but the supply of food items is the only thing SHORT. ![]() Also the clean up for this table was the slowest I have ever seen when there are several large groups waiting at a restaurant on an average Monday night. I was traveling with 2 small children, one requiring a car seat and I don't know if the staff was new or just confused but they tried to seat our crowded group at a table with no menus or cutlery. I'm fine with a wait, but there were several other parties waiting. A Monday night - the wait was 20 mins which turned to 30mins waiting. I thought I'd save Gladys Knights restaurant for our last night also being my 30th bday dinner. I am not from Atlanta and up until now my food experiences were great. ![]()
